Earthquake in Türkiye and Syria


On Monday, February 6, two powerful earthquakes struck Türkiye near the border with northern Syria.

More than 57,000 people lost their lives, and the damage to buildings, roads and infrastructure has left millions in need of humanitarian assistance.

Izmir Kassam, a 10-year-old boy from Calgary is running 100 kilometers to fundraise for our campaign in Türkiye and Syria. Learn all about his initiative and make a donation to his fundraiser below.

Our members are actively responding to the urgent needs of people most affected by the earthquake.  Highlights of activities already accomplished include (but are not limited to):


  • We have provided primary health care and emergency obstetric care, as well as medical supplies for health centres
  • We have supplied assistive and mobility devices to health facilities and directly to people with injuries, along with rehabilitation services


  • We have distributed hygiene and cleaning kits
  • We have provided water tanks and trucking services
  • We have repaired sewage systems
  • We have built temporary latrines


  • We have distributed emergency food packs and supplies
  • We have provided food vouchers to families


  • We have procured and distributed kitchen kits
  • We have provided shelter kits and repaired damaged houses as needed


  • We have provided protection services such as gender-based violence case management, psychosocial support, and education
