The Value of Media and Corporate Partners

June 25, 2015

Two months after the first of two deadly earthquakes in Nepal, the Humanitarian Coalition wants to thank the members of its Rapid Response Network (RRN) for their invaluable support during our joint national appeal.

Today, we are delighted to report that the cumulative value of all activities undertaken by our RRN partners exceeds $500,000.

Our RRN partners come from a broad range of sectors, but they all share an understanding of the need to come together when disaster strikes. Their contributions take different forms - from free advertising space to waived transaction fees, to employee fundraising initiatives - but all play a key role in the Humanitarian Coalition’s ability to keep appeal management costs down.

For our recent Nepal appeal, our media partners, Bell Media, Shaw Media, CBC/Radio-Canada, and Rogers TV ran free public service announcements (PSAs) on their television and radio properties, and put up banners on their respective websites. Print publications Maclean’s, The Chronicle Herald, L’actualité, Le Devoir, and le Journal Métro also gave free space. These measures served to inform Canadians of the urgent need in Nepal, and to offer them a simple and secure way to make a donation.

PATTISON Outdoor Advertising provided Digital Out-of-Home media products across Canada. Property managers 20Vic Management shared appeal information on twenty websites from shopping centres across the country. Outdoor Media Works put up Humanitarian Coalition appeal banners on their digital boards at the Formula One Grand Prix in Montreal.

Online marketplace eBay Canada provided dedicated banner placements on their homepage and within their marketing emails. PayPal, a global payments leader, on their website encouraged users to donate to the Humanitarian Coalition. PayPal credited back the transaction fees for Nepal donations thereby making sure that 100 per cent of donations raised via their platform went towards the relief and recovery efforts.

Canadian retailer Rona joined the Rapid Response Network and launched an employee campaign, inviting staff to donate to our joint appeal.

On behalf of the people of Nepal, the Humanitarian Coalition expresses its sincere gratitude to all RRN partners for their steadfast and generous support of our joint appeal model. With their help, we can save more lives.
