Afghanistan: Nuristan Floods
People Helped
Humanitarian Needs
Sudden flash floods struck the Nuristan Province of Afghanistan on July 20, 2026, with low-lying communities along rivers experiencing the greatest impact. The floods have affected more than 15,000 people, including at least 11 injuries, 31 deaths and 77 missing persons. The damage to homes, infrastructure and livelihoods has left communities with significant recovery needs.
Humanitarian Response
Canadian Foodgrains Bank is working with Community World Service Asia (CWSA) in implementing a recovery response. The CWSA has delivered eleven previous Foodgrains Bank-funded projects and has worked on both sides of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border since the 1980s.
CWSA is currently distributing multipurpose cash assistance in response to the flooding in Nuristan. More than 350 eligible flood-affected households in Nuristan and Nangarhar will receive 170 USD, helping them prioritize and meet their most urgent needs.
Our response to small and medium-scale disasters is co-funded by Global Affairs Canada, the member agency delivering the assistance, and donations to the Humanitarian Coalition. Your gift will help us be ready for the next disaster. Donate today.
