A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Flores Island, Indonesia on August 15, 2026. The quake caused widespread humanitarian impacts across seven districts, including deaths, injuries and damage to hospitals, roads and public buildings. The shaking also damaged more than 4,600 houses, displacing the families who lived there.

Humanitarian Response

World Vision has been working in Indonesia since 1998 as Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI). The organization currently implements child-focused programs in communities across 15 provinces. Programs include disaster preparedness and response, education, livelihoods, child protection, health and nutrition, and water, sanitation and hygiene.

WVI is offering psychosocial support for children in 31 villages that were affected by the earthquake. Trained facilitators are helping children process their experiences through drawing, puzzles, emotion cards and other forms of creative play.

WVI's response is also supporting emergency water access for these communities. Teams are installing 36 temporary water tanks and provide water trucking services.
