The Humanitarian Coalition provides an additional $1.5 million to respond to crises in Sudan and Gaza

Today, the Humanitarian Coalition is announcing an additional $1.5 million in humanitarian aid to respond to the ongoing crises in Sudan, Gaza and the West Bank. This funding will allow our members — many of Canada's leading humanitarian organizations — to provide critical food, safe water and sanitation support, emergency health services, cash assistance, nutrition and psychological support to families who need it most.

Sudan is facing one of the world's largest hunger crises — with famine confirmed in two parts of the country. Outbreaks of cholera, malaria and measles continue to rise in areas where health, water and sanitation systems have collapsed, while acute malnutrition rates are alarmingly high among children.

Humanitarian Coalition organizations continue to respond to the Sudan crisis, as well as the displacement crisis spreading across neighbouring countries, and an additional $1.2 million will be allocated to life-saving projects in the region.

With families in Gaza already at great risk of famine and illnesses like diarrhea and pneumonia, cold winter temperatures are also threatening the entire population of more than two million people. Humanitarian needs are also growing in the West Bank as forced displacement and settler violence are escalating.

Additional funding from the Humanitarian Coalition will allow selected member organizations to strengthen their efforts and expand their life-saving work in Gaza and the West Bank. Despite the challenging humanitarian and security situation over the past two years, our members have been actively responding to this crisis — many of them have been addressing humanitarian needs in Gaza for decades.

We continue to call for the upholding of international humanitarian law and the safe and unhindered humanitarian access to address the persistent humanitarian crises in Sudan and Gaza, where millions of people are in urgent need of aid.
