HUMANITARIAN NEEDS

Two cyclones hit Madagascar in just ten days, killing dozens of people and affecting more than 470,000.

Entire neighbourhoods in Toamasina were devastated and communities have been cut off from food, clean water and health care. Homes, schools, health facilities and livelihoods have been destroyed, and rising floodwaters are increasing the risk of disease outbreaks as thousands of families are left without shelter or basic services.

HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE

Canadian Foodgrains Bank is responding to this crisis through their member World Renew, in partnership with Sampan’Asa Momba ny Fampandrosoana (SAF-FJKM). SAF-FJKM has more than fifty years of experience providing humanitarian responses in Madagascar.

SAF-FJKM will provide rice, legumes and oil to 665 households for three months. They are also distributing emergency cash transfers of 280,000 MGA (90 CAD) to families affected by the cyclones.
