Humanitarian Needs
Starting July 5, 2026, the Cox's Bazar District in Bangladesh was hit by heavy monsoon rains and landslides. Within a week, the area had received about 810 mm of rain, which marked the highest sustained monsoon rainfall in recent years. Continued rainfall and flooding have restricted movement and made it difficult for families to access food, clean water and safe shelter.
The floods and landslides affected more than 1.1 million people across 10 districts in Bangladesh. The floods damaged or destroyed more than 74,000 houses, 29,000 water points, and 36,500 latrines.
Humanitarian Response
Islamic Relief has been active in Bangladesh since 1991 and has operations across 35 districts.
To help address urgent humanitarian needs, Islamic Relief is distributing cash grants of CAD 92 to 420 flood-affected households and shelter kits to 210 Rohingyan refugee families who have been forced to flee their homes. In addition, an estimated 4,284 people will participate in community information sessions on gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health, and how to access support and referral services.
