Humanitarian needs
Heavy rains and extensive flooding have had devastating consequences for the lives and livelihoods of more than 700,000 people across Mozambique. More than 100,000 people have evacuated their homes, and the floods have caused widespread destruction to houses, farmlands and infrastructure.
Humanitarian response
CARE has maintained continuous humanitarian and development operations in Mozambique since 1984, and Save the Children has been responding to humanitarian emergencies in Mozambique for more than 30 years. Both organizations are active in the areas affected by flooding and are able to respond quickly and effectively.
CARE and their local partner Associação Jovens Amigos de Govuro (AJOAGO) will restore safe water sources for 3,000 people and provide gender-sensitive hygiene products for 8,750 people. They will also support people experiencing gender-based violence and other crisis-related risks, as well as raise awareness about these issues.
Save the Children and their local partner Associação para o Desenvolvimento Comunitário will reach at least 4,000 children and caregivers with mental health support, child-friendly spaces, services to reunite separated children with their families, and community-based strategies to keep children safe. They will also provide emergency cash support to 2,000 households so that they can meet their immediate needs.
Our response to small and medium-scale disasters is co-funded by Global Affairs Canada, the member agency delivering the assistance, and donations to the Humanitarian Coalition. Your gift will help us be ready for the next disaster. Donate today.
