Humanitarian Needs

In Niger, from August 30 to September 6, 2024, the Center-South regions recorded rare rainfall of several hundred millimetres, causing significant damage in 2,121 localities.

In total, more than 370,000 people were affected and 69 people died. Further, thousands of crops were destroyed, and water and hygiene infrastructure, such as drinking water points and latrines, were damaged.

Humanitarian Response

Oxfam-Québec, through the Humanitarian Coalition, will be providing assistance in the Commune of Dakoussa and Trimini, in the Zinder region. The Oxfam teams will focus on providing emergency latrines, distributing water purification products and dignity kits, raising awareness on hygiene practices, as well as providing the communities affected with protection and counselling services.
