Humanitarian Needs

Severe monsoon rains and cloudbursts in mid-August 2025 triggered flash floods and landslides across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab provinces in Pakistan. Hundreds of people have died, thousands of homes and schools were destroyed, and key roads and bridges have been washed away. Women, children, older people and people with disabilities are among the most vulnerable, facing displacement, loss of livelihoods and limited access to health, food and essential services.

Humanitarian Response

Save the Children has been operational in Pakistan for more than 40 years, with an established presence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab through long-term programming in health, education, child protection and emergency response.

Save the Children will deliver a life-saving response that addresses the urgent needs of affected communities in Swat, Buner, and Shangla in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chiniot and Jhang in Punjab--districts among the hardest hit by the August 2025 floods.

Families will receive shelter and essential household items to restore basic living conditions. Hygiene kits, clean water, and awareness sessions will help prevent disease and ensure access to safe water. Communities will also benefit from cash-for-work activities that improve local infrastructure.

Health needs will be addressed through mobile health outreach that deliver consultations, essential medicines and equipment. Finally, the response will strengthen food security through the distribution of food supplies to ensure people have access to enough nutritious food.

The response will integrate gender equality by prioritizing women- and child-headed households, people with disabilities, adolescent girls and transgender individuals to ensure inclusive and dignified access to services.
