Humanitarian Needs

Since August 2025, Yemen has experienced catastrophic flooding across multiple governorates. More than 350,000 people have been affected and 62 people have died. The flooding has also caused extensive damage to infrastructure, homes and agricultural land, while disrupting essential services across affected regions.

Severe windstorms and heavy rains during August and September devastated displacement camps in Marib City and Al-Wadi District, completely destroying 1,246 shelters and damaging 7,438 more. This destruction has created urgent humanitarian needs spanning shelter, sanitation and hygiene services, essential household items, food assistance, water and protection support.

More than 13,000 people have since arrived in the displacement camps, fleeing armed clashes, airstrikes and economic collapse. Humanitarian response capacity has been overwhelmed by this multi-layered crisis.

Humanitarian Response

Oxfam has been in Yemen for over 40 years, demonstrating long-term commitment to communities across both northern and southern regions of the country. Through both direct implementation and strategic partnerships with local NGOs, Oxfam serves more than 25 internally displaced persons camps and surrounding host communities.

Oxfam-Québec will provide emergency cash assistance to 285 households in Marib City and Al-Wadi district, reaching both displaced people and hosts in the community. The cash will help families meet basic needs for food, water and sanitation, shelter, household items and essential services for four months.
