Read our LATEST statement

The Middle East Emergency is a humanitarian crisis

Since February 28, 2026, escalating military violence has triggered a severe humanitarian emergency across the Middle East region. More than 2,000 people have been killed, more than 20,000 people are injured, and at least four million people have been forced to flee.

In Lebanon alone, more than 816,000 people, including 290,000 children, have been displaced.

The Humanitarian Coalition's members are supporting people affected by this crisis with:

  • Critical food
  • Clean water and sanitation services
  • Emergency health services
  • Temporary shelter
  • Cash assistance
  • Psychosocial support

The hostilities have affected 14 countries so far, destroying or damaging schools, hospitals, health centres and energy infrastructure. Our members are responding in Lebanon and Syria, and are monitoring and scaling up to respond to urgent needs in Afghanistan, Gaza, Iraq, Jordan, Türkiye and the West Bank.

You can help support families caught in this conflict.

About the Humanitarian Coalition:

The Humanitarian Coalition brings together 12 leading aid organizations to provide Canadians with a simple and effective way to help during major international humanitarian emergencies.

We have a proven track record of delivering life-saving assistance where it's needed the most. Since 2009, the Humanitarian Coalition has raised more than $258 million to meet the emergency needs of nearly 13 million people affected by 165 crises.

In recent years, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of Canadians and a matching contribution by the Government of Canada, we have raised:

  • More than $25 million to deliver vital aid following the earthquakes affecting Türkiye and Syria in February 2023.
  • More than $28 million to address the humanitarian needs in Gaza and the West Bank in November 2023.
  • More than $9 million to support life-saving humanitarian programs in Lebanon in the fall of 2024.

We're reaching out to Canadians again now to continue to support our response to the Middle East Emergency.

The four pillars of humanitarian assistance

The Humanitarian Coalition is committed to the four pillars of humanitarian assistance: humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence.

→ Humanity: human suffering must be addressed wherever it is found. The purpose of aid is to protect life and health and ensure respect for human beings.
→ Neutrality: humanitarian actors must not take sides in a conflict or get involved in political or ideological disputes, so the focus stays on providing aid where it is most needed.
→ Impartiality: aid must be provided to those most in need, regardless of nationality, race, gender, religious belief, class or political opinions.
→ Independence: aid must remain separate from political, economic or military agendas, so it can be given based only on the principles of humanity, neutrality and impartiality.

Civilians in conflict zones must be protected and supported

The Humanitarian Coalition urges leaders to end the violence and seek a resolution that upholds the rights, dignity and safety of all people. Action must be taken by all parties to protect civilians, especially children.

The escalation of conflict has triggered a severe humanitarian emergency across the Middle East region: aid corridors have been blocked, health care facilities have been destroyed or evacuated, and hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced.

Our members are providing life-saving assistance for children and families caught in this conflict. Every hour counts. Canadians can help rush emergency assistance to people affected by the Middle East Emergency by donating at www.together.ca or by calling 1-855-461-2154.
