The member agencies of the Humanitarian Coalition are on the ground in Nepal, assisting survivors of last weekend’s earthquake

The Humanitarian Coalition and its member agencies welcome the Government of Canada’s decision to launch a Matching Fund program for the response to the Nepal earthquake.

The Humanitarian Coalition is launching a national joint appeal to help the victims of the devastating earthquake in Nepal. The reports of deaths, injuries, and extensive damage caused to people’s homes and livelihoods are making it clear that this is a disaster of immense and growing scale. So far, more than 2,200 are confirmed dead.

A 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal earlier today. The member agencies of the Humanitarian Coalition are ramping up assessments and aid delivery to assist survivors. More updates to come.

Following the passage of Cyclone Pam over the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on March 14-15, the members of the Humanitarian Coalition have ramped up assessments and aid delivery to assist survivors.

On March 14-18, the 3rd World Conference on DRR will take place in Sendai, Japan. The outcome of the conference will set the stage for the next decade of progress in protecting people from the effects of disasters.
"We are now well beyond the point of asking whether international humanitarian organizations should partner with the private sector. The pertinent question is ‘how do we do it?’ and answering it requires the articulation of clear objectives and the development of strict criteria."
