The Humanitarian Coalition is undertaking a field review of the response to the Nepal April 201
5 earthquake. The review will focus on inclusion (particularly gender) and accountability, and will answer these questions: Were gender and accountability incorporated in the response? Did gender and accountability shape the response?
It will also support evidence-based learning and programming, as well as member accountability for the use of funds received.
Canadians donated $8 million to the Humanitarian Coalition so its member agencies could provide life-saving aid to survivors.
Inclusion/gender and accountability are understood as essential, crosscutting components of a quality response. They both require that the response strengthen the power and dignity of people at risk of being marginalized and sidelined. This is achieved by involving them, as much as possible, in decision making.
This final review, comprised of Humanitarian Coalition staff in Canada and member agency personnel in Nepal, is led by Silva Ferretti, an independent consultant. A final report is expected by mid to end-April.
