Syrian Refugee Crisis

Syrian Refugee Crisis

September 2015

The conflict in Syria began as a peaceful uprising in 2011, but subsequently descended into a violent conflict which has been now lasting for almost 5 years. Today more than 12 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance inside Syria with more than 6 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). More than 4 million Syrians are now registered as refugees, with neighbouring countries such as Turkey (hosting almost 2 million Syrian refugees), Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt at the forefront.

More than 700,000 people have risked their lives to cross the Mediterranean Sea this year. Over 3,500 didn't survive the dangerous crossing, including young children whose images are still very present in our minds.
