Humanitarian Needs

Typhoon Kalmaegi, one of the year's strongest typhoons, caused at least 188 deaths in the Philippines. Most deaths occurred in Cebu, an island still recovering from a recent magnitude 6.9 earthquake.

The storm has affected more than 4 million people, leaving many families without clean water, food, shelter and sanitation.

Humanitarian Response

Oxfam has delivered critical humanitarian assistance in the Philippines for more than 35 years, addressing food security, protection and emergency cash assistance, as well as water, sanitation and hygiene. Their work focuses on gender equality and reaching vulnerable groups such as women, seniors and people with disabilities.

Oxfam Canada and their local partner, Community Organizers Multiversity, will help meet urgent humanitarian needs by providing emergency cash for food and shelter, repairing water points and toilets, providing psychosocial support and more. Their response will focus on underserved and excluded communities including women, children and LGBTQIA+ individuals.
