Back-to-back earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 24, leaving an estimated half a million people in need of humanitarian assistance. Our members are moving fast to deliver critical aid, and we need your help to save even more lives.

How the earthquakes are impacting Venezuela

Two strong earthquakes hit north-central Venezuela just a minute apart, causing massive loss of life and destruction. Hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries have been reported, with numbers expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue.

Hundreds of buildings collapsed or were severely damaged, and critical services like healthcare and power have been compromised. Experts also expect significant aftershocks that could put communities at even greater risk.

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but we know that thousands of families need urgent aid.

The Humanitarian Coalition’s members are supporting people affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela with:

  • Emergency shelter
  • Clean water and sanitation
  • Health services
  • Cash assistance
  • Psychosocial support

We need your help to reach even more survivors with critical aid.

About the Humanitarian Coalition:

The Humanitarian Coalition brings together 12 leading aid organizations to provide Canadians with a simple and effective way to help during major international humanitarian emergencies.

We have a proven track record of delivering life-saving assistance where it's needed the most. Since 2009, the Humanitarian Coalition has raised more than $258 million to meet the emergency needs of nearly 13 million people affected by 165 crises.

In recent years, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of Canadians and a matching contribution by the Government of Canada, we have raised:

  • More than $25 million to deliver vital aid following the earthquakes affecting Türkiye and Syria in February 2023.
  • More than $28 million to address the humanitarian needs in Gaza and the West Bank in November 2023.
  • More than $9 million to support life-saving humanitarian programs in Lebanon in the fall of 2024.

We're reaching out to Canadians again now to continue to support our Venezuela Earthquake Response.

The four pillars of humanitarian assistance

The Humanitarian Coalition is committed to the four pillars of humanitarian assistance: humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence.

→ Humanity: human suffering must be addressed wherever it is found. The purpose of aid is to protect life and health and ensure respect for human beings.
→ Neutrality: humanitarian actors must not take sides in a conflict or get involved in political or ideological disputes, so the focus stays on providing aid where it is most needed.
→ Impartiality: aid must be provided to those most in need, regardless of nationality, race, gender, religious belief, class or political opinions.
→ Independence: aid must remain separate from political, economic or military agendas, so it can be given based only on the principles of humanity, neutrality and impartiality.
